What Nicklaus think of long putts

This is what Jack Nicklaus think of Long putts. As you know he was one of the best golfers on the planet and therefore his putting advice and putting tips are probably somewhat valuable. So here’s what he’s gotta say about long putts.

Three putt greens often occur because of an all out effort to sink the long ones.

So rather than charge the cup on these, I will putt for a spot 3 feet short of the hole and try to avoid going more than 3 feet past the cup, this gives me a 6 foot circle in which to stop the ball 3 feet away. With a good line, some will drop anyway.

I also stand more erect than on shorter putts. Up high I find I can see the hole and the line more easily.

So what do you think?
