Avoid head motion in putting

It is important to avoid head motion when you’re putting. Or so says Jack Nicklaus, one of the greatest golfers ever walked the fairways.

Here’s what Jack reckons about head motion in putting. (Another great piece of putting advice, so listen up)

A steady head position is just as vital in putting as in any other phase of golf.

Premature lifting of the head during the stroke can be an unconscious habit. Occasionally my wife, Barbara, has to point this out to me. After following my round she will say “You’re moving your head again!” This is a cue to spend extra concentration on the matter next day.

One thing I do is make sure my left shoulder does not pull up during the stroke, as the head may rise with it.

Another precaution is to wait until the ball has travelled 3 or 4 feet before looking up. If this still doesn’t work for you, try not to move your head until the ball stops or drops.
